>>28999409 It seems bullshit, but that is exactly the point. You are battling someone who wants to beat you, and is smart. Salamence is extremely fucking good at coming in on shit, Mega evolving and Setting up, and hitting like a rocket powered freight train afterwards. That's what it does.
Lugia is a pokemon built to be the hardest wall to crack in the game. That's what it does. And even Lugia is only a shaky counter to Mega-Mence. It is still a counter, however.
The Revenge Killing point is because if it can only be revenged in (Like say, Weavile) then Salamence gets to just switch out and repeat the process later. You loose a Pokemon, and accomplish nothing noteworthy.
If the other team has something set up, guess what? It's probably a Mega-Mence in the exact situation this is.
Salamence only comes in on things it forces out when it wants to set up. It won't come in on something that would just kill it (barring a surprise) because that would be fucking stupid.
The point on rocks is that with rocks on both sides, Salamence has the advantage as the aggressor.
The point of this exercise was to understand the massively imbalancing nature of some Megas. Lugia is basically the only counter to it, even if it is a shakey one, which means when it comes to the rest of the team, guess what Pokemon has a target on its head? For the Salamence player, "KO Lugia" becomes a victory condition, since nothing else can counter it. What's worse, everything has to go PERFECTLY for Lugia to counter it. Lugia has to be sure rocks are off the field, it cannot risk taking any chip damage or status, and it cannot perform it's other main duty as a wall to anything else on Salamence's team, because doing so might risk its counter status.
>But what about Lugia's team! The best anything else can do about Salamence is keep rocks up. That's it. They can try to revenge check, or maybe status it, but that's all. Lugia holds that role entirely on its shoulders.
