If Aether grunts have their own custom designs instead of using generic scientists models, it's probably villainous to some degree, at least to the point where you have to battle Aether members for whatever reason.
Or it could be reverse psychology, hinting at a villainous side to the good team to make people think there will be a twist when really there's no twist.
