Yeah, pretty much. They're a subset of digimon with a lot more thought put into what kind of program they were born from and how that determines their powers, as opposed to designing a cool dragon warrior and just saying it's made of data in background lore. Even their fusions are based on more complex programs. It's a concept dating back to the original V-pets that wasn't really expanded upon in most continuities, and I for one am excited to see where it's going.

Same. It takes a ton of cues and references from Yokai Watch (and from Tagiru's half-season, Young Hunters), but the art's good, the protag's interesting, and it looks like the plot will actually be dark and interesting.

My biggest issue is that I feel like I've seen the protagonist before. But where?

So they're designed to be more straightforward than to be random. That would make things easier to deal with, but it also makes them far more limited. I think it's an appropriate move nonetheless considering they didn't do much with pool of ideas they had to start with. I liked the creature based designs, though. I do realize that there wasn't much more they could do with them. Regardless, they get to explore different ideas, and that should result in better monsters, especially if they are only focused on one idea.

Dude, no matter how you try, this season will continue to be shitty as fuck. Digimon was never a really good series, the first season hold itself on the feeling of "adventure in a dangerous place with no adults around", second season was to see the conclusion of the first group, but there was literally nothing cool with that shit.

Also Imperialdramon got the shit beat out of him in that movie too. It's hard to really say Omegamon jobbed from what I remember. It was only because of Omegamon's power fusing with his own that they were able to really do anything.

The anime is alright. The demo for the tie-in game is really fantastic though, so I hope it all comes over. And that Toei themselves handles it really quickly instead of Saban, since Toei did a great job on the Tri dub while Fusion was a trainwreck.

If you like 3 over Adventures then you are deluded, it is a fact that 01 had better writing and plot, the characters were obviously better. Rika was a cold, emotionless "more experienced and cool than MC but still get's outpaced by him", MC was a dweeb and had no memorable attributes(same with tai but oh well), and the other guy was just the other guy.

The only decent character was jonyu(?) and after they go to the digital world the plot is a mess. Beelzemon is a joke, they actually designed him thinking it was cool though.

I think the idea of "dark" stories is blown out of proportion a bit. I mean, stories can be "mature" as in, tackling themes of emotion and maturity, and they can also be "dark" which means a focus on violence, conspiracy, and the like.

Sometimes they can overlap. Sometimes they don't. I am not sure which aspect that anon was referring to, but I think a distinction between those two terms is important.

I liked Frontiers in that the kids being a sentai didn't bother me all that much, and they were more fleshed out versions of the first 2 season kids. What really pissed me off was the comic relief digimon that followed them around.

Digimon should do an Arc-V style series that incorporates every single gimmick in the series (digi-mentals, jogress, spirit evolution, digi-xros, burst mode, x-evolution, this new app shit) and focus on a protag with a Digimon that can utilize all of them. Just something to tie all the continuities together.

Every Yu-Gi-Oh series goes downhill at some point, then picks back up again. I think the issue with Arc-V is that it being so good in the beginning (most YGO series are slow starters) led people to build up riidiculously high expectations and react more strongly when it dropped the ball than with the previous ones.

At the moment the relation seems to be like between SMT and Persona. Basically the same thing but with slight differences because it's a spinoff.
Personas are basically demons but they come from the human subconsciousness. Appmon are basically digimon born from apps and based around their functions.

They really should've stopped after Tamers, most of the characters afterwards just look so unrealistic and stupid, they all have too much going on in their design, I love Digimon when it was more basic and the characters had actual character.

I love the Digimon Tri movies simply cause they went back to their roots and it's not all complicated with fusions and forms etc

Too early to put Appmon in

I just find Adventure really dull even though I grew up with it. The gimmicks are what made future Digimon series so fun and the expansion of lore made it more immersive. Though Id put Adventure episode 21 near the top, and every movie is fantastic.

In terms of quality of the series

Tamers > Adventure > Savers > Tri > Frontier > Xros DG > Xros Wars > 02 > Hunters

As for actual quality of writing and production values I think Tamers is the best, Adventure second. Then the rest is very bellow them and I can't be bothered to put them in order.

It is. Though the approach they are having with it would work just as well with computer programs, as each Appmon is based around an application or system function.
But regular Digimon are already tied to the computer environment, and they aren't based on its workings, it would be weird to apply this concept to them, especially in the long run. This was a pretty smart solution.
