Did they literally just give your contest rival a Machoke holding a box because they were too lazy to make one more pokemon model, because woow.
I mean I knew it was bad when they gave Zinnia a Whismur for no reason. They even threw together a cheap back story for the Machoke's box. Is making small chibi pokemon models really that resource heavy???

Thing is, GF intentionally gutted it because there's a large segment of vocal cancer that hates the fact that catching Pokemon relies on RNG and thus hates the Safari Game for using RNG so heavily.

I mean, it's a fine joke on its own: Dude has a Machoke but only enters it in cute/beauty contests. I wouldn't of even questioned them reusing the model if they'd just removed the box.

Those aren't 100% chances, you can control them to certain extent like switching out for confusion, using items for other status, other moves or items to improve accuracy etc.

This. Plus the whole idea behind the safari zone is that you're not allowed to battle the Pokemon in it because it's supposed to be a preservation thing and you can't go around killing everything in sight. Removing the mechanics and making you battle the mons goes against the lore.

Being RNG heavy isn't the problem with the Safari Zone. It's that the entire feature is nothing but RNG. The only "option" you have is throwing rocks/bait, which only exist to trick the player into reducing their own odds of catching the Pokemon (throwing a rock technically increases the odds of a Pokemon staying in the ball, but the odds of fleeing before you can even throw a Pokeball end up being higher than your statistical gain).

The Safari Zone should have been a feature that was built upon with every generation, introducing new features to make it more interactive and less "your only interaction during an encounter is throwing a ball and praying". For example, just off the top of my head, a feature to allow you to track a Pokemon who ran away to get more chances to catch it. Or maybe having multiple types of Safari Balls with some sort of system to observe the Pokemon you're trying to catch to learn which ball will give you an edge.

But we got nothing. The Safari Zone was ported into later gens with the same lack of interaction it had in gen 1, with the only major changes being things that stopped mattering as soon as the encounter begins. Since Gamefreak didn't seem to want to fix the Safari Zone, it's better off gone.

Funny thing is that they constantly came up with new and sometimes novel/interactive ways of attaining exclusive Pokemon.

But I suppose that to the majority, nothing quite trumps the feeling of catching a Pokemon by using another Pokemon instead of jumping through some side or mini games.
I guess can relate to a degree. Thank fucking god you didn't actually have to play any Game Corner games to get their Pokemon and could straight up exchange for them.

Anon, they removed the part of capturing that makes it difficult. The pokemon can't attack and possibly KO your mon.

Instead you mindlessly lob items at the Pokemon. You need to stop equating tedium with difficulty.

They had a Machoke model without a box already. Someone on the staff probably (correctly) figured that since they already had the model made, making it carry around a box would make it more memorable than if it were an ordinary Machoke running around.

Not only that, but the safari zone in RSE was the one where you could actually control shit with pokéblocks if you knew what to do. But hey, let's conveniently ignore that.

If you felt the safari zone was tedious, I don't know what to say. Catching pokémon in the zone really isn't that time-comsuming, and most of the time you will spend on searching down the pokémon you want like in a standard route, making it pretty much equally tedious as any other catch. The only really tedious part of any safari zone was the item placement in HGSS, and that was because it was a terrible mechanic that relied on you waiting 20+ days just to get the pokémon you wanted, without any real way of knowing what to get in-game. That was just bullshit.
As for the original topic of this thread, ORAS was very lazy in many regards. I mean, look at the fucking caves and tell me that isn't the work of laziness.
