In Gen 6 it stops the stupid design choice of 200% exp yield for switching from affecting your team levels.

With that said, Set > Shift for me no matter what.

You know how in the main story mode, after knocking out an enemy Pokémon the game will say "Opponent is about to send in [insert Pokémon name here]. Would you like to switch?"? Set changes that to online/facility rules, where the opponent will just send in their next Pokémon.

Set is how battles work in post game facilities and multiplayer. You aren't allowed to switch out after you have taken out one of opponents Pokemon, and you aren't told which Pokemon the opponent is bringing out either, so if the opponent brings out a Pokemon who has as advantage against your current one, you give them a free turn by switching.

Read my fucking post. If I wanted to not play casually then I wouldn't play the single player campaign of Pokémon. Besides, in my experience Set makes it very hard not to overlevel your starter in the early game, which makes the game easy on its own.
