Instead, they chose to make all that buildup pointless. This was more than their asspulls in other regions, they went against their own word with no explanation given. Someone like that shouldn't be ALLOWED to write, or to dictate how things should be written. For you, it makes no difference, I guess, but you must realize that this goes against what other sagas have done as well. Whenever someone was presented as someone Ash MUST defeat, it was done. They went against that, and because they did, anything else that they can even ATTEMPT to do on that front is null and void. Ash no longer has the guarantee to win against ANYBODY. No, the anime didn't have much of plot to begin with, but there were still things expected of them. They took even that away. They deserve to be relegated to nonsense in that case.
