FRLG seem like an odd choice. They capture the spirit of the old games well enough but because of that they feel pretty empty and lifeless compared to the more recent games. You're also bound to get people telling you to add Platinum, Black, and White to that list too.

He's right. FRLG had at least as many flaws as XY, less content, less variety in Pokemon, a region that was practically empty (in spite of it being a remake, where they had ample opportunity to add a little more depth.)

Not saying XY were amazing, but they were a fuckton more enjoyable that FRLG. The only thing in FRLG's favour is the Vs seeker.

The trinity that gets thrown around 9 times out of 10 here is Platinum, HGSS, and BW2.

I would imagine that for a quartet that Emerald would probably be the fourth, though.

But definitely ditch FRLG for plat. That's the closest to a consensus you'd get on /vp/

It's objectively the slowest generation. It has objectively the worst game engine.

And of course Sinnoh is objectively the worst region, rivaled only by Johto. Gen 4 was an abomination and we can only hope the remakes are even more drastic than ORAS.

If I were to choose my 3 favourite Pokemon core games (that I've played) I would pick HeartGold, Diamond and White.
FRLG are pretty good for repeated playthroughs since 1st gen has many good and nicely distributed Pokemon but it gets boring way faster than the other games. My reasoning is that Kanto is not varied enough and gives you too many trainers to battle.
That is my opinion and you are allowed to disagree.

Yes, 4 gen games are slower compared to the others, but it's not as frustrating as others make it out to be. The speed is fine unless you are ADHD degenerate.

Platinum fixed everything that was wrong with D/P and it had

>Awesome legendary
>Distortion World (awesome)
>Good OST

The Sevii Islands it's a groundbreaking concept that alleviated the lack of johto dex.

So far only Esmerald and FRLG added post game capture zones never seen before in their games, at least not behind a gimmick(HGSS cyanwood extra safari zone), the Sevii island also had post game side quests and puzzles.

This is why they legitimately count as this for the quartet.

The distribution is still shit because of Sinnoh's naturally terrible dex, the game is still awfully slow, and the region itself isn't very interesting and has annoying gimmicks like fog.
