>>29061201As a Portuguese, our "hatred" for Brazilians is for the most part tongue-in-cheek. Our countries have a very close relationship in terms of history and culture, and no brazilian or portuguese feels as a complete outsider in each others' country. At least from what I gather, I don't exactly speak from experience, but from what I have been told.
However, there is an underlying sense of mistrust and competitiveness with one another. Speaking from one side of the Atlantic, we do sometimes feel a bit of jealously for Brazil and how, in spite of all the crime and social issues, it manages to have a more widespread and positive image compared to ours, which is in constant decline, and the idyllic tone of soap operas have helped color our image of Brazil as a more positive place than the quiet, depressing Portugal of today. And Brazilian immigrants have negative stereotypes over here as con artists, cult leaders and sluts who destroy marriages.
I can't speak for how Brazil thinks of us since I only know of the whole baker thing, but I suspect it might be a similar view.
I imagine it must be the same for the Spanish and their own ex-colonies.
