its not that they are different. its that digimon would've failed marketing-wise in the west if it wasn't for pokemon. same for yu-gi-oh. pokemon started a jap-craze the likes of which nobody had seen before and probably never will again. the pokemon go craze was a tiny fraction in comparison of what the original was
