Seems to me they are trying to flesh out the gen 1 mons with types they were lacking (since 3 types were added and only a few Gen 1 mons were retconned - none became dark, one line got steel and a couple got fairy, there was only 1 ghost line, 1 dragon line, and only a handful of ice types, most of them being part water.)
Fixing gen 1 is an amazing idea. A little less poison would be nice too, if possible, so make vileplume something cool, and make victrebel part fire.
