You won't be able to evolve anything except if they want you to. If it's like the ORAS demo, you'll only get battles with pokémon of a set level on both sides and no XP.

considering that all the demos in the past didn't actually allow you to play the first part of the game, this scenario is highly unlikely.

for all the young'uns lurking, gens 4 and 5 also had demos, and they gave you set mons in a random area full of trainers and a patch of grass, much like the islands you fly to in the ORAS demo.

there is a reason it did not work on the last pokemon demo.

the final evos were shown when some guys got the full game early and started leveling up only the starters.

this gen will be no different. only when the full game comes out we will finally see how the starters look and move during battle.

the demos used to be only in like cons/shows or in the case of 5 - the US mall tour.

Pokemon XD similarly had a demo and even allowed you to transfer the captured shadow metang into your game
