The cancerousness of a board is directly related to the casualness of it's subject matter. Pokemon is relatively well known but not many people play the game to the degree we do. Because of this, there is a fair amount of cancer on this board but it's not as bad as something like /b/, /v/, or /a/, which are all about subjects mostly everyone who spends a lot of time on the internet knows about.
Liking Pikachu is the most casual Pokemon related thing one can do. Most people who know nothig about Pokemon will probably say Pikachu is thier favorite Pokemon.
