Breaking the helmet isn't.

I mean, look at most Pokemon with a cocoon-like mid evo. That's the best comparison.
If that could be considered an evolution, then so is this.

I'm think it's a "fake" evolution. Type: Null and Silvally are the "different" Pokémon, but in the same Pokédex entry. It evolves in itself.

Also, didnt any of you notice that the color of the two is different? Type: Nulls neck and head feathers are grey where as the ones of Silvally are white. It also gets bigger and heavier when it evolves.

Well, no, since you can still change it back to Original Rotom or any other form, there's no such thing as permanent form change
But I wish they would have find a way to keep Type:Null as its name, or something in the same spirit

Are you being dense on purpose? How do ppl now it does not change its face anyway?

It gains those feather like things on his head, it gets bigger and its fur thing is no longer grey, now its white. It goes from 6' something to 7'07''. Also it loses some weight, but it might be due to the mask thing.

Yeah, its a classic example of "it just gets bigger" evolution, but it is still a evolution.

Because it can't go back to being Type: Null afterwards unless it lost its trainer and got a new mask somehow.

Both Lycanrocs will most likely share base stat totals and movesets with some differences.

All four Oricorios will probably share the same base stat total and movesets with some differences.

Silvally is a literal improvement over Type: Null with better base stats, and a different moveset.
There is no way for Silvally to return to being Type: Null, the Pokemon it evolves from. So isn't it an evolution?

The height gain is probably mostly from the 'feather' crest you mention (which it looks like part of the mask is designed to hold closed) but it does also look slightly lither and longer generally.

Silvally is different enough from Type:Null. The head crest changes and has those energy-looking blades, the face being obvious enough, and the vibrancy of its colors. Type:Null had grey fur/feather(?) on its neck and crest, but Silvally has white. The bug claws also get more saturated, as well as the blue plates on its rear legs and the entirety of its tail. Of little importance, it also gets taller. It's more of a natural kind of evolution rather than a typical pokemon one.

I am going to use Silvally when I get it, no matter what. It's going to be Super Trained and IV trained asap.

You retard. Lycanroc is no different from Oricorio. Its a species that makes use of the Sun/Moon theme just like the mascot legendaries. Do you seriously want an Espeon/Umbreon rehash?

Think of it less as an "evolution" even though it's listed as one.

Type: Null is presumed to be the Pokedex not having proper information to provide for the Pokémon. It's a masked creation that it cannot identity. Therefore, it has a default-type name like Type: Null.

When the mask is removed, it can be identified. It's a unique Pokemon, the only difference is it now is not disguised. We get Silvally, a synthetic Pokémon.

So while it is listed as an evolution, it's a technicality. Functionally it being an evolution makes little sense, but canonically it's the only thing that makes sense.

Kind of a bad example since Vileplume and Bellossom look nothing alike beyond "flower(s) on head." Moonroc at least looks like a heavily reskinned Sunroc standing up.

There is no reason why Type:Null and Sylvally are different pokemon, but I have a few theories as of why they did.

There's never been a set definition as to what an evolution is anyway.

Scizor literally just gets a new coat and a BST shift.

At least we know Silvally will have a BST increase.

There's no arbitrary limit on dex space though. A major complaint would only occur if they didn't have enough Pokemon, which would be a result of saving too many dex spaces.

Scythe to Scizor involves a change of form. There are differences even besides the obvious metal coat. Silvally is the same being, just with its mask removed, and true potential discovered. It's a similar "evolution" to Magneton or Dugtrio. As a perceived evolution, it just doesn't make sense.
