I'll never understand why this guy isn't the mascot of the series. Or why Game Freak seems to have forgotten all about him.
-Cute
-Cool
-Original
-Symmetric
-Relatively strong
-Satoshi Tajiri's favorite pokemon
-Was used in promotional stuff ALL the time back in gen 1. He was up there with Charizard and Pikachu.
He also represents the series much better than Pikachu or Charizard. Pokemon was based on the idea of Japanese kids finding and catching weird bugs and frogs in the forest. And this guy is a tadpole that decided to skip his metamorphosis. How cool is that? Imagine finding a tadpole that keeps growing bigger but won't turn into a frog! Every other kid would be jealous of you.
He's much more interesting than a dragon-looking fire lizard or an electric rat. Especially because Pikachu and Charizard's main appeal is that they can attack with fire or lightning, while this guy is just a natural amphibian creature with neoteny. He's more true to the spirit of the series.
