All the AZOTH things, while talking with "shrine maid" in Delta Episode there is a song called AZOTH. AZ in Hoenn, Plan AZOTH, all these fucking alchemy hints. I also don´t think the sulfur, mercury etc. thing was just a coincidence.
They probably wanted to make Gen 6 and let Gen 7 straight to NX but it was the 20th anniversary so they thought let´s make this a huge celebration, new gen etc. Maybe the thing with Alola forms were even considered for Kalos but they just said, we don´t have time so we will just make megas.
