When replaying Genwun (or any pokemon game, at least in the main story) just use mons that you like the design.
They're easy games, no need to be a tryhard making overpowered teams for the in-game.

Yeah, I never got to play all the way through Gen 1 as a kid, parents wouldn't buy it for me so I only played on cousins' Gameboys and on Stadium. I got Red on the Virtual Console a few weeks agoto play through because Gen 1 is the only one I've never beaten and god I wish I had gotten Yellow.

NidoranM and Nidoking dont learn Double Kick until level 44 and 52? Charmander line's only fire type move until level 35 is Ember? And they dont learn a flying type move until Yellow? God the move pools in Red and Blue are unforgivable. They make countless Pokemon unusable.

Your moves are bad but remember that your opponents also has bad moves.

If they still are in bad shape for a simple thing like a basic attack, remember that in Gen1 TMs are your precious friends.

Yeah, like scyther, the bug/flying poke with one stab move and not catchable unless through the save/load state zone, or paying mad digital cash that i need to gamble in a rigged game for it.

Well there's the problem. You havent accepte dgen I is literally the worst. with no gameplay value outside of nostalgia or curiosity that other gen can offer better.

Knowing how shit the Elite 4 are is the only thing keeping me going. The TMs are mostly really pathetic but I figured out in Gen 2 how to always win at the game corner so I'll just have Ice beam/tbolt/flamethrower on everything eventually. Honestly if I were playing Yellow or TMs were reusable I'd be fine.

It's because you keep thinking of Gen1 as the same as the later gens, where GameFreak actually put in the effort to try keep most of the final evolutions reasonably balanced. In Gen1, the balancing was pretty awful, so only a small number of Pokémon were any good.

There are enough good Pokémon in gen 1 to make a team I enjoy, but they're always in the 2nd half of the game and you still get like 0 variety. Plus every Pokémon has an awful move pool

I replayed blue recently, you just need to know the fastest path in the Safari Zone to reach the right place, then you save your game there and keep walking in the grass (and resetting if you're out of time).

15 Minutes later I got a Pinsir, oh boy this sure was hard!
Absolutely no need for slots outside Porygon.

Dragonite would be better than both but

Gyarados plus is that is not slow and is bulky enough, its downside, double weakness.

Flareon plus is that it hits like a fucking truck but it's slow and it has no bulk unless you gave up one of your move slots for Substitute or Reflect, so you had to give up either Body Slam or Dig.
