It gets a 33% damage increase from Battle Bond. Battle Bond also forces Water Shuriken to hit all 5 times.

So basically, Water Shuriken is:
>75BP
>33% Damage Increase
>STAB
>Physical (Chansey doesn't wall it to kingdom come)
>Water Type (Solid Attacking Type)
>Multi-Hit (Breaks Subs)
>Priority

He basically has a 150 BP Water Type Physical Priority Multi-Hit attack that runs off of a 145 Base Atk Stat.

This is LITERALLY the best Priority move in the game. It's better than Huge Power Aqua Jet from Azumarril. Fuck, it's better than Arceus's Extreme Speed. The Multi-Hit aspect of it is HUGE.

I don't know if Battle Bonds is actually better than Protean, but they could have done FAR worse than giving AshNinja what essentially amounts to a Z-Move that can be fucking spammed.

This alone is what will make it bad. Non-protean Greninja has dozens of things that wall it, and once you reveal you're Ashninja you're never scoring a kill.

Eh, Moxie's not nearly as great an ability as people want to think it is. The only Pokemon that uses Moxie by choice is Scrafty, and that's cause he's defensive as fuck. All the others prefer Intimidate or one of their other abilities (except Honchkrow who just has shitty abilities). Moxie works best on powerhouses anyways, not glass cannons, which Greninja certainly is.

Greninja still lost. Whatever the reason was, it still lost the battles.
Edgezard might've taken a good beating from a bunch of different Pokemon, but it didn't lose. It took an E4 Mega Blastoise two Mega Launcher powered Dragon Pulses and a Power Up punch to beat it.
It was established pretty early that Alain's Charizard can take almost anything thrown at him. You just didn't pay attention.

Fuck off Alan shill. If you had two brain cells to rub together, you'd have seen the plot screaming for him to win even since the prophecy before XY&Z began. They were forced to make the frog choke, which fucked up the whole "frog saves the world" thing and utterly removed Flare's reason for kidnapping him. The whole thing reeked of some clueless suit mucking everything up when the writers had a clear goal.

Why? Why did things turn out this way, then? The writers for the anime are shit, but surely they had SOME idea of what they were doing. Alain was introduced for the sole reason of defeating Greninja. It's not the end of the world.
With a neutral nature it outspeeds base 106s which is still fact enough to revenge kill most of the meta.
And after it transforms it outspeeds base 115s and has boosted Water Shuriken to help pick up the slack against faster mons.

The same could be said about Protean Greninja or any frail offensive mon really. That's not a negative, that's just par for the course.

It would only really be replacing Hydro Pump since there's no point in having two water moves. I imagine most sets will just be:

-Water Shuriken
-Dark Pulse
-Ice Beam
-Gunk Shot or Low Kick

The problem with replacing Hydro Pump is that it has the immediate power that makes switching into it scarier. And I guess you could put in niche coverage like HP Fire or Aerial Ace for Mega Scizor or Heracross, but you still have Sableye which walls you without Hydro Pump.

It's not 5 hit for sure, and it's still 15BP. so at worst it's regular priority. average hit is 3, so it's 60BP which is the same as Scizor bullet punch. at 4 it's EXspeed, and in 5 hits it's 100BP.

However, Talonflame is still the strongest Priority unless you hit 4 times.

252 Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mew: 171-202 (42.3 - 50%) --

252 SpA Life Orb Greninja Water Shuriken (4 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 192-232 (47.5 - 57.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

at 5hits it's almost 80%.

So yeah, RNG and shit but honestly it's really, really going to be a viable option.

Meh. suicide orb works better with him because he have such a nice moveset.

Honestly, the best set will be probably something like that -

Ice beam (pretty much the best way to go Greninjash is killing something weak to ice)
Dark Pulse (Second best option)
Water Shuriken (finishing water-weak only for Getting A-Greninja, then it's a gamble on netural hits, but can be pretty much the strongest netural move)
Low Kick/Gunk Shot (Can kill stuff easy enough too)
Hidden Power Fire will be really meh to even try.
