The shit thing is that these niggas completely overwhelmed Gen 6 natives. Who cares about Kalos natives when Kalos is just Kanto 2.0 remastered when you can get your old favorites like Kanto starters (with Mega stone given right away), old pseudos, Snorlax, Lucario, etc etc. You really have to go out of your way to use the Kalos natives.

They better be. There's no reason why Gen 1 and Gen 3 starters should get preferential treatment. Also with respect to pseudos, Dragonite and Goodra got shafted

My theory is that future games will have new megas, they're just taking a break in SM to focus on other things. Doesn't really make sense to have a permanent mechanic that's limited to such a small group of Pokemon.

Does Alola take place in the new timeline?
I understand that Mega Evolution is in the game but it's not featured as prominently and there were no new megas introduced.
