>>29264911It's always bothered me that normal type can be combined with *anything*. In my mind the only reason that typing should exist is to imply a non-elemental aligned creature. We have pokemon *made* of magma or fire, or living icebergs, or blobs of good held together by psychic power, and they fairly well embody a particular elemental affinity, or two in some cases. Normal type should describe things like Farfetch'd or Porygon, who aren't attached to one particular element. Maybe capable of using one or two elemental moves of various types, but otherwise the typical bite/scratch/tackle/physical moves type of fighting.
Then you've got shit like Heliolisk who has normal tacked on for no discernible reason, or Bibarel who is somehow Normal *and* Water type. Like wtf? I guess it could make sense if you rationalize that it's a generally non-elemental creature that has just a passing affinity? Does Heliolisk get a lot of electric moves, or particularly powerful ones? I've forgotten. I know Bibarel doesn't get a *ton* of powerful stuff, and it's stats aren't great either. Maybe that's the thing with normal combos. They're elemental, but not very good at it, so they're kind of in this horrible limbo between being a mundane monster and a lightning spitting dynamo, so they end up being a lackluster Godzilla wannabe and stuck with the Normal label too.
That said, we really could use a regional bird that *isn't* Normal/Flying. I'd just really love a pure flying type that isn't Tornadus for once. Flying seems like the redheaded stepchild that just gets tacked on to creatures with wings if they want to give it a second type but can't come up with anything better. "Noivern could use a second type to differentiate it. What suits it? I guess it *could* be Dark, since it's all black and it evolves from a bat, but it doesn't look mean enough. Eh, fuck it. It's got wings, make it Flying!"
