After Genwunners complained about their pokemon being ruined, and Eviolite, cross gen eveolutions are dead, outside of eevee,

Plus, Gamefreak clearly wants to not get to 1,000 pokemon. Hypothetically, they could introduce around 70 pokemon each gen, more or less to hit that mark. After that, I'm unsure.

Considering we're nigh guaranteed to get DP remakes this gen, it's possible they wanted to do it like how DP made them postgame exclusive. though that would also mean the DP remakes would be pretty shit for not following Platinum distribution

They haven't reached 1000 yet because there's only been 7 Generations of Pokemon, even if every gen had 100 new Pokemon, there would still be less than 1000 Pokemon.
