Yeah the Island Dex lists are just cutting out the Pokemon that don't appear on that island/ There are Pokemon that appear on multiple islands so they appear in multiple dexes making the grand total higher than the full total.

This seems to be the best regional pokedex if you ask me.
285 (Solgaleo and Lunaala apparently aren't in) witch is good regional pokedex are fine with 210-290 pokemon.

Also,the region feels really connected,unlike kalos there's various pokemon that are in more than 1 island,pikipek beign common...etc.
The quality of this pokedex is just awesome,Kalos was ok,but Alola it's just top tier.

Kalos had too much pokémon. Some short as fuck routes had like 20 different species, it was a clusterfuck.

285~300 is a good amount. It's basically the same as BW2, which probably had the best regional dex to date.

Too bad most of the choices for the Alola dex were pretty underwhelming, and the lack of some pokémon like Bellossom, Solrock, Lunatona and Tropius sucks.

If the game hadn't been rushed and the whole thing was like Kalos pre second gym it would have been fine since the game was meant to be fucking huge. I feel like they were running out of time and they couldn't rework the dex and just had to cram them all in somewhere which led to stupid placements and encounter rates.

Johto's dex was screwy because many of new Johto Pokemon were in Kanto.

The other dexes prior to Kalos otherwise were a good variety because there were plenty of new Pokemon to compensate.

The reason BW2's dex worked was because while there was a fuckton of old pokemon, you also had a fuckton of Unova mons. XY's new mons were drowned out in the dex due to the sheer quantity of old mons, and while this is a little better, the ammount of Alolan mons for each still feels kinda small.

I feel like this game could've actually been benefited if it had a relatively small dex, maybe even smaller than Hoenn's. For things to feel like a proper mix when it comes to a dex, I think that for a small ammount of new mons, you need a small ammount of old ones. That way, maybe the new pokemon they're trying to push can actually feel like they have some presence in the game.

I'm not opposed to a larger dex( at this point of the series 250-350 should be the norm for new games), but I'd like a balance of new and old. One of the problems with XY pokedex was that Kalos wasn't big enough to contain 450 pokemon and this led to a bad distribution.
I also don't like many of their choices for the Alola regional dex and having only 73 new pokemon is really disappointing

Because trading requires reciprocity. You need to find someone willing to take what you have, which if it's just island 1 or 2 pokemon will be difficult. Then there's the fact that they might have a bad nature.

Good. Kalos was overwhelmingly crowded. As soon as you find one poke you want to raise, you enter the next route and come across 10 or more new pokes to catch and raise.

ORAS and B2W2 had good, manageable sized dexs.
