No. Really. Way back when a group of chinese mathematicians came to his college as part of a cultural exchange program, and he was tasked with showing them around the bar scene. After a few drinks, he explained his theory that an economy could go into a cycle of endless growth, so long as the population of producers was always larger than the population of dependants. Producers? The workers: adults, healthy, independant. The dependants? Well, the very old, and those too young to work. So, as long as the working population is larger than the combined populations of those too old and too young, you have economic growth.
And the Chinese mathematicians went back to China... and they shared their findings... and less than a year later: "One child per family" was the law of the land.
