Chesnaught is meh/decent and Greninja is good shilling aside. Delphox is the only cancer Kalos starter. And Emboar and Samurott are shit (not as shitty as Delphox but) but Serperior is decent. But Alola starters are fucking terrible. The owl is the best and it's mediocre trash. The other two are cancer though.

That's the thing. Gen V had enough pokemon that the literal garbage isn't quite as bad because for every bad pokemon there are three or four really cool ones. I will to my death argue that the majority of Gen V's dex is high quality.

That's a complete contrast to this one, which has only a small handful of really cool pokemon. Gen 6 barely pulled off a small dex by pure force of will and mostly pretty baller designs, but they've been exposed hard this time.

Eh. Torterra just doesn't have the same appeal as Sceptile. It's too slow and since it's a quadruped it can't pull off the same kinds of cool moves that Sceptile can such as Leaf Blade. Also Sceptile has had a much stronger presence in the anime while Torterra is one of Ash's worst Pokémon.

It's really fucking close and I've never been able to definitively decide. They both are really cool conceptually, but I think Torterra's concept makes more sense. Sceptile's speed is a little difficult to buy because of it having a tree for a tail, but it's so sleek and unique. There still isn't another grass starter or pokemon with a design anywhere near it, whereas Torterra has similarities to Venusaur.

This "Quality > Quantity" argument is also dumb. They could have easily made a goal for at least 100 new Pokemon without any issues whatsoever, making sure quality is maintained. They literally chose this route of a low number of new Pokemon from the very beginning. The same as they did with Gen 6, which is clearly forgivable. The only issue is that they did it again, as if it's now ok to do so. Anyone here really want 70-ish new Pokemon each generation from now on? Stop lying to yourself.

The best part of playing a new generation of Pokemon is the NEW Pokemon, and everything else should be less of a priority.
