Because they aren't discontinuing production of the 3ds yet. It's possible that Sun and Moon might come to the Switch, but obviously no one knows that but Nintendo. But they've already confirmed that Pokémon games will be developed for the Switch, so I assume Sun and Moon might be the last 3ds games.

Black 2 and White 2 were released after the 3DS were released.
Besides that Switch is closer to being a Wii U successor than a 3DS successor.

although when they first announced the DS it wasn't meant to be a Game Boy successor, so they'll probably change their mind if it sells well enough

The 3DS was capable of playing games from the previous system.

The Switch can't. And it's obvious that it's a handheld on the most part since all the power is in the handheld part and the docking station purpose is only to transfer the picture to the TV.

2018, and with a whooping 68 new Pokemon, not including the Omega Fusion mechanic which will be a new mechanic where you can fuse two Pokemon together to create a super powerful one.

All 18 Omega Fusion Pokemon will be based on Gen 1.

All the notable Wii U games will likely get enhanced ports for the NX.

Smash Bros is a given, Xenoblade X I'm not sure, but MK8 and Splatoon are already confirmed and I'm sure we'll get Mario 3D Land and DKCTF too.

I really feel that Gen7 is going to be a really short gen, possibly the shortest one so far.

If I had to predict what the next pokémon games going to be, I'd say it's either
>2016 - SM
>2017 - Break (or GSC on the 3DS's virtual console)
>2018 - Gen8
>2019 - DP remakes
or
>2016 - SM
>2017 - DP remakes
>2018 - Gen8
>2019 - Break (or GSC on Switch's virtual console)

If Gen 8 is in fact going to be o released for the Switch, I can see the first games being released simultaneously with a cheaper version of the console that only works as a handheld, kinda like the 2DS and XY.

Yeah no they have no reason to only have 1 set of Gen 7 games and you're incredibly silly to believe that. The 3DS isn't going anywhere just yet and they can easily make another Gen 7 game for the 3DS next year before moving on to Gen 8 on the Switch.

i wish they would though...

instead of starting on new hardware with the new gen entries (having to recreate the whole game from scratch while at the same time make it new content and introduce new pokemon) and then follow up with some nostalgic cashgrab (just the same engine as the main games, with the content being mostly copy/paste of old game as well),
imagine if they started on new hardware but with a remake, allowing them to focus on programing the damn thing and getting the look right (and introducing some gimmicky mechanic like megas), and then follow up with the actual new generation games, where they could focus on the content and pokemon.

Switch was going to come out at almost the exact same time as SM.
So either they piss off nintendo and sabotage Switch sales or they release for the Switch.
Also the rotomdex is a tablet, like the Switch.
