>mfw they don't realize that Gen 2 Pokemon were essentially an expansion pack to the Gen 1 Pokedex and that the scarcity and rarity of them just made it more exciting to actually find a Pokemon you had never seen before
>mfw all the dislike comes purely from not understanding the context the games were released into

I'll make two concessions:
1) The level curve was bad.
2) HGSS should have fixed the curve
But aside from those two points, there is absolutely no reason to dislike Gen 2 if you've been with Pokemon from the start.
