>>29345683I don't hate gen 1. Yellow is one of my most favorite Pokemon games. I love the music, the low-tech asthetic, and the majority of the Pokemon.
What gets me super pissed is when gen 1 stuff is seen as more important or objectively better than the others. THAT kind of favoritism rustles my fucking jimmies.
Kalos did fine. Gen 1 got some favoritism, but it wasn't too bad. The only gen that really got forgotten in gen 6 was gen 5. That sucked, though.
Gen 7, though? I know it's the 20th anniversary and all, but instead of celebrating the franchise as a whole, Alola comes off as "Let's celebrate KANTO's 20th BIRTHDAY and those other gens can come along too, I guess." That's the wrong fucking attitude to take.
Pretty soon, the Hoennbabies and Sinnohfetuses are going to be the primary adult buyers of Pokemon, as oldfags like me keep dropping off the franchise bandwagon. People die, get old, lose interest, start families, etc. You cannot logically continue to massively suck the nostalgia dick of a game that most of your fanbase will have only played as a fucking virtual console re-release! Even if the plan is to get the new kids hyped up about Kanto shit through Megas or regional forms or ten other gimmicks... fucking why? The new kids would appreciate a well-executed gimmick that supports literally any group of Pokemon, regardless of their regional origin.
If gen 8 happens and Kanto is still the main focus, you can only blame the old, out-of-touch executives at Game Freak, at that point. A bunch of Japanese dudes in their 40s, 50s and 60s paying homage to their own company roots... "and the fans get to come along too, I guess."
