Scientifically the bone structure between birds is generally similar with the key components like wing span and beak size being slightly or majorly altered to fit that birds climate and it's dietary choices ESPECIALLY when they are within the same order. Socially when the everyday Joe calls out the Robin or the Sparrow in his front yard he calls them "bird" until someone asks him which one and then he specifies further as opposed to that same everyday Joe seeing a dog on his commute to work to which he says "cute dog," as opposed to "cute mammal." Some birds are free of this fate and most are rule breakers like Penquins and Ostriches who can't fly but make due or notable species like Owls, Turkeys and Toucans, BUT if you live in a place where the Toucan is as common as the English Sparrow you will call it a bird, but nowhere will you call a passing dog a Mammal. Hell some people call out common dog breeds like Shiba or Husky. Birds are just seen a simpler creatures so we don't feel the need to refer to them by their common name, only what they are, which is a bird.
Also me saying shit got more personal was just because I couldn't think of the right word. Order is more specific than Kingdom which is what Eukarya is, Elephant to Apple Tree is different than Wood Pecker to Toucan.
