Ok let me explain myself. When I first saw Pikipek I saw huge potential of it becoming a better looking woodpecker ya know. It looked cute, and it was close to becoming one of my favorite gen 7 mons. I was thinking to myself, "There is no way they could screw up this cute lil' fella". But they somehow made a cute woodpecker turn into an angry toucan. The second evo didn't even show any signs of this happening like all the other bird bros did, It looked like it was going to be a big woodpecker. While yes, it did start the angry look and the colored beak, why did they have to choose a angry toucan. It makes no god damn sense to me. I REALLY hope this thing grows on me or else I'm going to box it for another.

Dude, the Toucan's design is too similar to its inspiration to the point that doesn't even feel like a pokemon. Its not even a toucan with a twist, ITS JUST A FUCKING TOUCAN

Also its stupid that you think fossilmons shouldn't get a pass when we don't even know how the animals TRULY LOOKED LIKE. Artistic restorations are not even 100% accurate with the creature's appearance as they're just the outputs of human imagination. The toucan is an existing animal and we know every single detail about the toucan's actual aesthetics. Instead of Gamefreak plagiarizing mother nature like that, why can't they be assed to make a toucan look unique or interesting rather than just tracing a toucan and calling it a day? Hell if it was a toucan with woodpecker characteristics the design would've been FAR from being a flawed mess.

I don't see why the fossils are any different, aside from Aerodactyl and Kabutops they're just angry versions of their inspirations with one or two embellishments

The middle evo usually ties the two together though. With this line, there is no sign or connection of a woodpecker becoming a toucan.

That is true but Rampardos and the rest of the fossil pokemon's designs are more diversified from their inspiration. The toucan pokemon is just a toucan.

I think the issue is that most real-life animals have pretty complex coloration and shit that gets simplified when it gets turned into a Pokemon; see pic related. On the other hand, toucans are pretty simple in terms of coloration and shaping; so when the translation was made it looks far more similar.

Carracosta is just an archelon standing up, Rampardos has some spikes on its knees
Archeops is missing the sickle claw
Theres barely any differences, the fossils are what you'd get if you asked a cartoonist to draw a dinosaur and the same is true for the toucan

Rampardos' defining feature is its head and its entire design revolves around it bashing into things. It comes from the Skull fossil and they made sure any audience can look at it and understand the purpose of its protruding skull and spikes. It's evolution from Craniados is simple and they share very similar features.

Let's look at Pikipek, a woodpecker that's defining feature is its sharp beak. It pecks with its beak, it shoots seeds from its beak. The 2nd evo keeps this sharp beak but the red hair is lost and moved downwards to its neck. It's a noticeable change but it's not too drastic because the dominant feature, the beak, is consistent. Now the toucan, clearly, has a different shaped beak. It has lost all the sharpness and straightness of its pre-evos, and its red plumage has pretty much disappeared and is only visible toward its tail feather, where it was never shown to be on its pre-evos. The white feathers beneath its wings are gone. The feathers protruding from the back of its head are gone. It gains a large neck out of nowhere, and while these changes have been seen in other evo lines like Remoraid > Octillery and Wingull > Pellipper, they do not make sense in this scenario. Pikipek loses its defining features, the basis of its design. Fuck this toucan.

In these 'instances' you describe the pokemon species involved are not well defined i.e. clearly based on a single real world specimen; whereas pikipek is clearly a woodpecker and its final evo is very clearly a toucan.
