>>29371989>That's pretty much the reason why any popular portable was popular in japan. It was part of the reason, yes. A big part of the reason. But not THE only reason. The game had genius concept and design that offered a lot more than any other handheld RPG at the time.
>Well one of the reasons Pokemon was so big in Japan was cause it reminded people a lot of bug catching and battling that is popular.Bug catching was dying. That's the reason Satoshi decided to make a game about them. And catching a Pokemon was nothing like catching a bug. They were similar in concept, but completely different things.
If Pokemon games hadn't come to the west, the anime wouldn't have been nearly as popular as was. It would've been just another anime with monsters. It didn't have much to offer on its own. A few kids would've watched, and it would've been forgotten overtime. Even Digimon, which had a much more interesting anime that I enjoyed as a kid, was not nearly as popular because the games weren't as good.
Similarly, if the anime wasn't a thing, the games wouldn't be as popular. But the games still had a lot more to offer. They wouldn't have been the cultural phenomenon it was right away, but it would've caught on. The anime boosted it's popularity quickly, but overtime, it still would've gotten to the same place it is now.
