It's called the Westermarck effect.
And it's in place in humans to prevent inviable matches.
it's also why most humans aren't zoophilic, or pedophilic to an extreme. no viable offspring. (ephebophilia, attraction to that which is sexually mature but still young and possibly underdeveloped, however, has much larger commonality. Because jailbait makes babies. Toddlers don't.)
Evolutions has gone out of its way to make sure, in mentally healthy and normative humans, that the overwhelming majority of the time you are attracted to only that which you can make babies, or as might be in the case of the humans in pokemon world, that which you were once capable of making babies with, and the attraction just hasn't bred out either because it's not been given enough time or because the toll it takes is too miniscule to matter in terms of gene survival, like myopia.
As such, If humans were once pokemon, it woulc make sense for them to be in the human-like egg group, and thus be attracted to things in that egg group, and this is supported by what we see in canon. For anything not compatible... "The two prefer to "play" with other Pokémon more than with each other."
