The mega Bracelet doesn't do anything though.
The Z-Ring toy makes noises and interacts with the game, as you can apparently activate the Z-moves with it instead of touching the screen.

You wouldn't waste a Z Move boosting a Close Combat on something like Weavile, would you? That's part of the incentive.

There will probably be a niche for it with pokémon that are not really good but also aren't so abysmal they need their held item to be a stat increaser (like Pikachu needs, for instance). It's also hard to tell what kind of pokémon or moveset a Z-Move would fit before people get the game and start experimenting with it.

Though I guess it's pointless saying it on /vp/ where most people think any pokémon which is not a powerhouse with mathematically proved efficiency isn't even worth looking at.

The Pokemon I can see using the generic Z-Moves constantly are Draco Meteor spammers like Latios. It's pretty much a free even stronger than Draco Meteor Draco Meteor that can be followed up by yet another Draco Meteor that'll be at full power.

They are Gems 2.0. They won't have much regular use because 99% of things would rather carry life orb, scarf or literally anything else.

They just seem too predictable compared to gems. Since only one can be fired off a battle, you'd be wasting an item slot by putting more than one Z-crystal on your team. And it's going to be pretty obvious who is going to use the Z-move just looking at the team.
It's the same case with Megas really. The thing is, a Mega usually can't be completely shut down with a single protect.

How would the Z-move user be obvious? Any Pokemon can use them, and if you have a hyper offensive team, it's hard to tell which is the Choice / Life Orb / Z-move user.

At best, Z-moves are merely complementary and secondary compared to Megas.

Because 99% of things would rather have an actual item and the chances of things that will truly benefit from using a z-crystal over a real item will be ridiculously small. It's called common sense. No one but shitters will be using them on random shitmons to "surprise" the opponent and if you lose to a shitter because of something like this you'd probably have lost to him anyway.

my guess would be this is because there is no "auto-target" in battle royale, so it shouldn't fail like that in normal battles

In that case why not run choice specs? Draco will be stronger than the z-move for sure and you can still launch a second strong draco. Plus you can switch, rinse and repeat.
