Do a sequel instead of a remake. Don't restrict the villains at least to the same shit so it's not 2895892 fights of koffing, zubat, ekans, meowth. Add up to 30 save slots and world initialization options to config difficulty level, and facilitate nuzlocke/monotype/monospecies/NU tier/other challenge runs. NG+ that lets you change, set them to varying categories or randomize the starters. Return the xp share to only working on its holder. Add a Pokemon Center in any town that doesn't already have one, and scatter some Nurses in places like Mount Moon, Rock Tunnel and Victory Road for when things get tough.

Lower the average wild Pokemon level and Trainer level by 3, reduce the number of Pokemon for each gym by 1

HMs no longer need to be taught to your Pokemon; as long as you have the HM item and a Pokemon that can use it in your party, you can use the HM any time.

Change Unknown Dungeon to one room with no other wild encounters. Remove all boulder pushing and ice sliding puzzle areas.

Raise Pikachu's encounter rate in Viridian Forest to 50% (and update its cry to use its new voice acted cry).

Change the Lavender Town music to something more upbeat and less creepy.

Put Mew under the truck and an NPC near the dock that mentions that Mew is under the truck. The truck can be accessed any time, even after the SS Anne leaves.

Make Gary/Blue more friendly and less of a jerk. Change dialogue like "smell ya later!" To "wow, I never knew a person and their Pokemon could be so strong! Someday I'll be as strong as you!"

You can put your score on hold like in maison, but if you lose your win streak at any point, you lose your position as champion and have to win it back by redoing the Elite Four. Silver and do a surprise battle with Oak (complete with RBY beta team), after which the credits roll.

I like the idea of Mew under the truck, but that sounds too easy. I'd prefer something more obscure and hard to get like the originals. Maybe not as bizarre as that though; regardless, you felt accomplished as fuck when you got mew

In the style of BW2.

The regional map is slightly different and you start in a different town.

The gyms and gym leaders are different (some, not all.)

Unsure what to do with Team Rocket, perhaps ignore them entirely, perhaps have one of th Johto execs take over.

Bump up the dex to 250 - 300 mons from other regions. A lot of Johto mons and some from Sinnoh and Hoenn. Maybe a couple from other regions.

Regional forms of some Pokémon, but none of them gen 1 (naturally.)

Post game takes you to the Sevii Islands, where you can find a PWT equivalent and various other facilities (Join Avenue clone, etc.)

PokéRide equivalent.

You can travel to Mount Silver and battle a slightly redesigned and more powerful Red in the postgame.

Also, trainer customization is back.

They could do some cool forms of Kanto Pokemon based off of Gen 1 design mistakes: for example Horizontal-Shell Cloyster, upside-down Koffing, or a Water/Fighting Kingler with both of the claws being giant. They could also stand to do some Kanto forms of Johto Pokemon that primarily appear there e.g. Houndoom family, and maybe Sevii forms of Pokemon like Lapras.

There's a lot of potential there

Game corner would have voltorb flip, pinball, pachinco all that good shit.

Access to a equivalent of the pokemon world tornament, where you can fight every gym leader/e4 member.

Kanto's main issue at this point is a lack of character- GB graphics and a lack of a need to distinguish itself from other regions in the series made the original game AND FRLG fairly mundane overworlds. At this point, Kanto needs a substantial reworking. Like, literally redo entire routes and cities, keep only really significant landmarks and general paths around.

Since it's based on the Tokyo area, especially once you get to Celadon/Saffron, really emphasize the industrialization and urban sprawl. Tons of large imposing buildings pockmarked with snippets of nature that are more curated than they are natural. Stuff further out like Cerulean can remain relatively wild and free, but ham up that contrast.

Give more subtle details about Team Rocket's criminal affairs for those who look closely through stuff like News Reports. Give us a bit more details on how the Pokemon Trafficking criminal enterprise actually operates and makes money, maybe even to the extent of influencing local elections. It doesn't need to get crazy convoluted but give me a bit more than "Team Rocket is after the masterball!"

Increase Pokemon diversity a bit by adding the Johto Pokemon who could only be caught in Kanto, replacing all the Kanto-generic mons like Nidoran in the Safari Zone with actual foreign Pokemon (also revamp the mechanics a bit so its actually fun), add a few trainers in the bigger cities who are "tourists" and want to trade you their foreign Pokemon for your local stuff.

Add cool stuff like Join Avenue (replace / add new Underground Routes for this?), jam all of the "pro player" stuff in the Sevii islands.

If you show Mew / Mewtwo to Mr. Fuji you get a special cutscene where he apologizes for the atrocities he has committed.

This. Most areas in Kanto already have a pretty clear way in which they could be improved or expanded without hurting the feel of the game too much

Kanto's a boring region and the only reason people care so much is either because

a) Muh Team Rocket
b) Muh Leaf
c) Muh Nostalgia

I'm not saying there's nothing you can do in 3D with RBYG, it's just that the transition to a post Gen 7-like engine means having to redo the entire region instead of a straight conversion and even then I can't guarantee satisfaction in the most vanilla of regions.

You know when they have that aesop "Be careful what you wish for?" well in this case there's people that KNOW how boring Kanto is and the nostalgiafags think them liars and shitposters, ignorant of how not awesome the region of their childhood was.

Literally the ONLY incentive to do so is to make the original Pokemon game as cinematic as possible with a re-imagining and a little bit of padding/post-game additions. Not even lying.

In a way I feel like it mostly stems from nostalgiafag desire to bridge the gap between the anime and the games. People have mishmashed memories of gen 1 and the anime as kids, and want a Pokemon game that follows the structure of RBY but is as exciting and high-res as they remember the first movie and Ash's adventures in Kanto being.

Think about it. As a kid, you wished the games were more like the anime, because of how basic the games were compared to it at the time. Now that the games are more cinematic, full 3D, anime style models etc., the desire for a Kanto remake has sprung up once more. For most nostalgiafags, I think they just assume that their childhood dream of Kanto in full stylized 3D would make an instant 10/10 game without considering just how much would have to be changed, reworked and expanded just to make full 3D Kanto work in the first place.

- Add in a difficulty setting that is selectable from the the main menu.
- day/night cycle with subtle changes to wild encounters
-put the sevii islands back in
-put the orange islands in as post game content

The character who's gender you didn't pick is also added into the story, and will meet up with you in every town that you discover. He/she will also offer you to fast travel throughout the story to your next destination for convenience.

Silph co. has also been replaced with a Lucario tower. Instead of holding the CEO hostage, he threatens to steal the mega stone there and use it for evil.

Some decent ideas ITT but I'd go in a different direction.

Pokemon Gen 0:

- Prequel
- Characters Oak and Agatha
- Team Rocket still exists
- Cinnabar Island is full volcano with a forest and Rocket Mansion
- Mewtwo creation arc (Team Rocket gets Mewtwo, you get Mew)
- Kanto is less developed. I.e., Route 1 is more mountainous and less paved, Cycling Road is a water route, Viridian Forest is bigger, etc.
- Since Pokedex doesn't exist, give Oak/Agatha a "Poke Journal" where they sketch out similar information
- Since this is past Kanto, have some different Pokemon migrations or Pokemon species that went "extinct" in Kanto later on
- Gym league is still being expanded, maybe share with Johto
- Safari Zone doesn't exist but is just a wild safari, maybe where Mew is

Something like that, there's a lot more to work with if you go backwards in time by a few decades than if you go forward a year or two.

The protagonist is Red and it follows the story of RBG as normal. However, there is a greater emphasis on the story after Red defeats Blue and becomes Kanto Champion. The story will follow him across the Sevii Islands, the Orange Archipelago and finally Johto, where he beats Champion Lance and climbs Mt. Silver.

I think there should be 6 held xp share items and a xp-all item. Levels and type availability just vary too much if you're swapping . Cause the wild mons are so low level and often trainers aren't much higher, even with vs seeker it gets really annoying to have to grind them up. You can totally do 4 pokemon a playthrough sure but it's far less fun let alone if you want to make a rain team, sand team, baton team, trick room, etc.

Instead of the normal, turn-based, battle system, you control the pokemon you send out in a 3d-fighter type thing, kinda like pokken, but with less moves but more gimmicks and the environment comes into play.

Develop the plot a bit more, have Johto as postgame (like Kanto was in HG/SS but more in depth), put in little easter eggs like actually being able to find a mew under the truck once you have all badges from both regions and beat both pokemon leagues, etc.
