No one is heartbroken over trainer encounter themes being gone. Rather, it's that fact this is another manifestation of GF's laziness and inane habit of removing things arbitrarily.
Little things like this really add to the charm of the game. Let's look at HGSS, almost universally considered to be one of the best games in the series
>walking Pokemon>GB sounds>recently used item option>phone call rematch system>weekly events at specific times of the day>menu displayed on the bottom screen in the overworldNone of these things are major selling points on their own. But together, they make the game feel more organic and much more enjoyable.
In fact, it's because they're so minor that you don't really appreciate them until they're gone, which is the case now.
