Probably. But I personally liked the way she was sewn throughout the game, only to get that slow reveal at the end that she's the champion. Was cool on the first go around at least.

None of the champs are bad, they all feel like worthy opponents at the top of their field.

Diantha felt like an afterthought that the designers put in after realizing that they need a champion. Doesn't help with her lack of screentime and character.

Lol all this Alder hate. Alder is actually quite possibly my favorite champion just because he feels more down to earth, real and "human" than any other champion before him. He's traveling unova in procrastination and because he's still dealing with the grief of having his long time partner Pokémon die. Him losing to N off screen was necessary to really show how serious team plasma was, but I think it was nice seeing a champion lose to someone OTHER than the player. He's also a bug champion with a solid team, and he's pretty helpful in bw2 along with being one of the best post game bosses in that game. All this makes him WAY better than Diantha

In terms of story interaction: Yes. I forgot you ever saw her before when I beat X, only realizing it when I started through Y a few days later.
In terms of an actual team: No.
The weak link in her group was Hawlucha, but had a well enough balanced team alongside a Pseudo in a way that fit an felt dynamic to some level.
Lance, especially only in G/S where the refight team didn't exist, will stand as the worst champion in terms of a team. Wallace is next in line for shit teams. Iris and Alder are a bit nebulous a bit under Diantha. Blue next. Steven, and then at the top is the hell of Cynthia's team.

You weren't overleveled for Lance if you played the game without grinding. Also, dragon types were hard as fuck if you didn't have any ice or dragon type attacks.

If you battled all the trainers in XY, you would be ridiculously overpowered for Diantha. She's not difficult to beat, because in 6th gen you get a bunch of good infinite TMs to cover basically any type matchup long before you meet her. Also you are forced to capture a legendary beforehand.

I've battled all the trainers during my playthroughs and i always was in mid to late 50s while the league was mid to latee 60s

Yes. That's how it worked. There was no regional champion before Blue. The fact that you even had to do anything after beating the Elite Four was supposed to be a surprise; it's only because later games have established champions that people get confused about how it worked back in RBY.

But he didn't have the title of Champion. That's the sticking point. He was just an Elite Four member in a region where beating the Elite Four (which no one else had done prior to that point) automatically made you champion. The champion title was only created after Blue achieved it.

The minute I saw her I immediately knew who the champ and Villian was. XY was honestly just such a handholding boring game. For most gym battles I didn't even look at the screen, just mash A. Same thing with the champ, just spamming one attack with an overleveled greninja.

Only in Gen 2, because there was more access to Ice moves and Lance used dual types more. In Gen 1, unless you have Blastoise with Ice Beam or Articuno, you'll have trouble.

This. There was no champion before Blue, hell at that point GF didn't even know what the elite four were. In the manga they were basically pre-team Flare with Lance as Lysandre/N trying to kill all humans for pokemon.

Also it is possible when you start the game the current champion left or died, which is why on Oak's pc it says the league is summoning trainers to come to the pokemon league to become the new one.

This bugged the fuck out of me in Gen 6. It's like they had this big grandiose story to tell with AZ and the power plant and stuff, then they just said "Ah, fuck it, we'll just move on to Gen 7". That's why so many people refused to believe Gen 7 was a new generation and not like a Gen 6.5 or something. It's because SO much shit was left hanging in X/Y.

I hope this kind of stuff doesn't become a trend, because Gamefreak STILL hasn't revealed what the original dragon looked like in Gen 5.

Not our job they did a terrible job of it. Put on something that actually classy rather than making her wear fairy wings and fucking shorts would have helped. Even the actual fairy trainer didn't wear fairy wings- and she was some otherkin nutjob who spoke like she was six and pretended she was a pokemon.
While I'm on this, why the hell would they base the champion on Audrey Hepburn anyway? I can't imagine her taking time out of her busy schedule of being a huge movie star and smoking out of cigarette holders to capture fantastical beasts in their wild habitat and train them to fight better than anyone else in the country. And neither did the game devs. She was presented as a movie star when you first meet her, has dealings with the main villain not because of pokemon- but because they were both power players in the city and happen to know each other because of it, she offers zero help in dealing with him, and then when you get to the final room- surprise! She's the champion. Okay, she's an actress- so this room is going to be based on a movie set right? No- we're doing this in a cathedral so that the epic showdown against her Mega Waifumon can literally happen in a church.

Such a hot mess of a character.

You were over leveled for Lance if you beat all trainers before him. And if you skipped a lot in XY (which is quite possible as I did) you'd face Diantha underleveled. You can also catch Lugia or Ho-oh before you face Lance in GS. Plus, it isn't as if it was hard to find an Ice-type, what with an ice cave right before Lance's cousin- and you even get a freebie Dratini in Crystal IIRC.
