SM are a special treat from GF for the 20th anniversary year, nothing more. GF is confirmed to be developing Pokemon for the Switch, with release confirmed within six months after launch.

Gen 8 will start Fall 2017.

Gamefreak never said that they would put a game on the switch. Tsunekazu Ishihara the CEO of pokemon only said that they would support it. It's nothing new. Pokemon has supported almost every Nintendo system. And Gamefreak and pokemon Co are two different entitis fyi

Except it is. Switch is going to have plenty of Wii U and 3DS games ported to it, and SM already have a GUI that seems to line up nicely with being a Switch game

This seems like the most obvious strategy to me, especially since it'll push Switch sales further assuming it isn't doing well in 2021.

I think they said 'Pokemon' would be coming to Switch in the first 6 months of release, that doesn't necessarily mean Gamefreak are working on a game, a company working through Pokemon might be making a spinoff game.
