Maybe it's just because we don't have high res art or shots of it in different angles yet, but the toucan really doesn't appear to have anything that distinguishes itself from real toucans aside from the yellow cheek and the blue eyeshadow/talons. Plus you gotta remember that the design philosophy of Pokemon has changed greatly throughout the years, and with it, our expectations. Why do you think the "Literally my mom's dog" thing happened in the first place? People want to see a clever mixing of at least two concepts, not just a random animal or object thrown into the game with no underlying inspiration or clever twist, like a plain toucan, or say, a fucking seaweed-covered anchor.
