Sea lions playing with balloons/balls is a cliche from the circus, and it has nothing to really do with clowns inherently. If Popplio were to become a buff juggling clown, that continues the theme of playing with the bubbles as an entertainer, and for some reason makes it stand upright on its tail fins, which makes no sense for something as top-heavy as Pinnister to balance on really fragile "feet" all the time, and only being able to move from its spot without waddling like a retard by dropping the bubbles and crawling, unless he can handstand when he needs to.
Poppmaid still continues the theme. There was no clown theme to begin with. It was just a performer that uses changing types of performances as it evolves.
