>>29473138Nigga, my family was poor as fuck in the 90's like a good portion of Americans, especially around where I lived. I still remember waking up one night to hear mom crying while talking to her sister on the phone at the prospect of us having to decide between food and electricity, and there was no wasteful spending going on. Dad was an abusive fucker who felt good pushing us kids around, especially my brother, and at the age of 8 I was in the hospital with a potentially inoperable growth on my GI tract that my parents definitely could not afford the operation on even with health insurance without some form of assistance. I wanted to die back then because that was better than being a burden to my family.
Media and the unique social climate of the 90's is what made it good for most people, because no matter how shitty life was, Toonami, Nickelodeon, the Super Nintendo, Blockbuster, and Pokemon was there for you. Also everyone else was going through the same shit, so outside of the assholes that were insecure little dipshits, everyone kinda commiserated on the shit that happened around us and to us.
It wasn't a great way to grow up, but I wouldn't change it. There's nostalgia, but being nostalgic about what made life fun isn't a bad thing.
