I'd love to see some other player characters, but I kind of feel that it's giving Gamefreak too much credit.

Brendan, May, Serena and Calem at least would make sense since the models already exist (and Wally's model looks reused).

Would kill to see Gold, Silver, Lyra and Leaf though. Probably won't happen but.

neither, I don't thin they'll let anyone use legendaries or mega stones since the battle tree will probably follow vgc rules and those are banned.

If mini-series:
N -> Reshiram

I feel like no matter what May would have a Blaziken and Brendan would get a Swampert.

I'm guessing they'd have mostly Hoenn pokemon so one might get a Gardevoir for sure since it's popular.
Salamence, Altaria, and Metagross are also pretty popular so maybe one of those to each.

oh and of course Fug will be there

Sceptile works too, he had one in Generations and the ORAS trailer, though it seems more of his incarnations starts with Mudkip.
In the games if you as May choose a Blaziken he gets the Mudkip, he had a Swampert in his anime cameos, and Ruby in the mango has one too.

I think they go out of their way to show the protagonist that hasn't appeared in the anime already. So May and Dawn already appeared with Ash but that all stops when we reach unova.

Hilda will be shown over Hilbert because it's gonna be the first and only chance they can show a female protagonist since serena was already in an anime.

It was risky when they did it with Red, because they made Red's "silent protagonist" model his actual personality when they made him into an NPC later. It works well, but it's not something you could pull off for another 12 protagonists in a row (just like fire/fighting).

And attempting to give them actual personalities would, well... take agency from the people who where projecting personality onto them while playing originally.
