I always love how these trailers take place in an alternate universe where kids even own a 3DS, let alone would that bulky thing outside over their phones. Even if they did it's unlikely you'd run into someone else who owns one randomly instead of only at anime conventions or something. It's like that trailer for the Switch where they're marketing video games like they're some kind of trendy lifestyle.

I mean I know the answer is "it's marketing bro", but this shit always makes me laugh.

Nobody ever made the claim handhelds were dying in this thread or that all kids don't play 3DSs or something. The claim was that the situation in the video doesn't happen all that often, and when it does it usually involves phones because those are easier to take around and you see kids playing with their phones way more often than 3DSs, which is true. That's not really a controversial claim, it should be fairly common knowledge around here that for as well as the 3DS has done, it's easily dwarfed by the mobile market still.

Nah man, back when Diamond and Pearl came out me and my buddies used to take our DSs everywhere; practically every kid in my neighbourhood had D/P and a DS, and I even played people like that when I went places with my parents, battling in person was the SHIT when DP was new

I just went for a PokeStop trail bike ride today and, while I would've seen a ton of people playing it in the summer, it's REALLY died down now
Unless Niantic actually improve that game, I doubt PoGo is going to surpass the main series in popularity
But yeah, it could definitely happen. RIP battling people on Gen IV and Gen V, socializing with the DS games was fun while it lasted

You know, I have actually been playing pokemon with a group on my friends and been approached by a group of kids who were also playing pokemon together. We all battled and traded while their parents watched warily from the distance. This was not too long after XY came out, in a Pizza Hut downtown.

So it does happen. I also used to run into people playing BW all the time while taking the subway to school. And of course if you're in university you run into groups of people playing pokemon all the time.

It's honestly not that outlandish a scenario.
