So it has the potential to be the Talonflame of Gen 7? Gosh I hope so. I also hope Charjabug isn't too hard to level up or at least already has a good amount of Special Attack/Physical Attack. Level 40 is quite a big number for a early encounter.

Roark was famously considered hard with his high attack stat fossil. And Falkner has the hacked Pidgiotto for higher stats.

Though its probably harder than the rest of the first gyms, yeah. I'd have to play it before I can really see how it compared, obviously

Except the premise of the trailer was that they were getting stronger. Charjabug is shown leveling up to evolve, and there is an immediate progression from level 40 to evolution. There's no mincing words here.

Relative to what? The only game that cam before it had fucking Brock as the first gym leader, who used ROCK AND GROUND TYPES with high defence at a time when your pokemon probably didn't even have its fucking type move, and even then when its stats were still too low to go toe to toe with a fucking onix. Shit, even the fucking trainers before brock were hard.
