Hear me for a second /vp/, if this has been discussed before I'd like to read an archived thread.
And this thread is not to defend Alola's limited new roster, I'm still a bit pissed, but the thought of it has sparked my interest. So listen:
You do know how in almost each new gen, the dex is composed by new Pokémon and older ones, right? once you have Quagsires in Sinnoh, it's no longer exclusively from Johto, you can find Quagsires in other parts of the world just like how you can find Exeggutors in Kanto even if they allegedly originated in Alola, this makes sense, species arrive on other regions and thrive there, some even changing form via natural selection. But we always count the regional dexes as the amount of new Pokémon introduced in that generation, regardless
Well, what if we go through every dex and rule out every Pokémon that could potentially come from other region, or simply any Pokémon that's present in other regions, leaving only those you can only find in one specific region at the moment?
What would the real number of native species be? Alola would of course have an advantage since there are no new 'mons in previous region, but I'd be interested to see how many Hoenn exclusive Pokémon are in Hoenn, how many ones in Kanto, etcetera. To get an idea of the ones you can get solely there.
Pic unrelated
