There's been a growing trend in Pokemon of putting inappropriate typings onto new Pokemon to sort of "fill out" the pool of monsters, almost like they only just realized they didn't have x/y type so they should do one.
Case in point: See Dragonite's line. Originally a very rare Pokemon, its unique typing gave it an awe-inspiring quality and its own special edge in battle. Of course, they were never going to confine an entire type to just one Pokemon family, but they did a good job of keeping that type rare and mysterious until gen 3 when they slapped it on a shitload of legendaries, a shitload of weird half-designs and a fucking antlion. Since then it's been a god-damned free for all with Dragon type.
Now in gen 6-7 it seems to be all about Fairy and Dark, with some old Pokemon literally given alternate forms just to accommodate it. There's a mantis Pokemon which is pure Grass. There's a fairy with a flower bigger than it which is pure Fairy. Now there's a mother fucking Grass/Ghost owl Robin Hood.
I don't even fucking know anymore.
