Nincada doesn't count. It's evolution into ninjask goes by just fine. the shell just get's possesed or something. otherwise? yeah, that's my bet.

The only Ghost Pokemon that are actually dead spirits are Spiritomb, Drifloon, Yamask, Phantump, and Sandygast (and by extension their evolutions).

Shedinja is Nincada's discarded shell that came to life. It's still alive as Ninjask though, so it's more like Nincada split it into two separate entities.

I never got why people assume ghost pokemon are dead, it's probably the one type of autism in this fanbase I never caught on. They eat, breed and are monsters just like all the others, just with supernatural characteristics I guess. Spooky powers but still alive, like all them jap folklore beasts instead of the typical western "dead" ghost. Although there's always the bullshit factor of them not being able to be hit by normal and fighting attacks and yet you shoot water at them and it hits.

My advice is just not think about it.

Ghost types in Pokemon are more like dark/shadow elementals than actual ghosts. They have more moves involving darkness/shadows than the Dark type (which is called the Evil type in Japanese) does.

Decidueye is a spirit-animal kind of creature.
Marowak is either a spirit or a spirit channeler.

I like Gen VI's approach to ghosts. I always wanted more spirit animals and mediums/channelers in the game. Marowak, Decidueye, and Oricorio do just that.

Let's just hope Marshadow or one of the UBs ends up as Normal/Ghost. Then the type is perfect.

Ghost types are not actually dead. Pokedex entries are not canon.

If anything, Ghost is like a more shadowy, chaotic version of Psychic.

You could argue that Spiritomb and Shedinja are dead to some extent. Spiritomb is confirmed to be literally composed of spirits, while Shedinja is the skin left behind by Nincada when it sheds, presumably with a piece of Nincada's consciousness still attached.
