for one thing, it's actually a pokemon that evolves differently depending on the game you're playing it in, not time of day.

that said, I'm pretty sure those supposed legendary pre-evolutions are actually a three-stage line with a split evo into the version mascots

But if that's the case, wouldn't the plot require them to evolve? That means you probably wouldn't be able to trade/put them in bank since otherwise you could get stuck.
