It actually might be my favorite grass starter. There's strong competition between torterra, venusaur, and him. And venusaur is mostly just benefitting from how much I like Ivysaur.

I can't wait to use this Pokémon in game. I love the concept, design, and surprise typing. Spirit Shackle looks like a fantastic move. Can't wait to see stats, movepool, and HA. I wouldn't be surprised if Decidueye takes the top spot as my favorite Pokémon ever.

So what do you all think of the other starters?

I wasn't a fan of Incineroar or Primarina, but I have to admit that the two have grown on me after seeing fanart of them. This Gen 7 starter trio is definitely my favourite, but Decidueye takes the cake.

Or worse, only 3 digits like Rowlet. It works on the adorable floof baby form, but I'm glad that Decidueye has anatomy more reminiscent of an actual Barn Owl.

Sidebar: I have gotten much better at typing Decidueye quickly. Those letters were not very intuitive to work with at first.

I still not liking Primarina and Incineroar, they look more like the concept they are representing, than actual Pokémon. They could've done a quadruped cat with musculature and normal paws and add something that makes it a Heel, the same with Popp3, but they only did the actual concept of a wrestler and a siren and added characteristics of their first stages.

To be fair, Primarina also takes inspiration from Selkies, which are basically singing seal mermaids/sirens from Irish folklore - so it's not that uninspired, I suppose. I like both Incineroar and Primarina, but a lot of their appeal/merit will come from their personality as opposed to a novel design like Decidueye's
