Gives it an ability that when an opponent attacks Arceus, it changes into type to make that attack be not very effective.

I'd imagine the transformation would require all plates though. Aren't they kind of parts of Arceus?

just make the plates an in-game mechanic where an NPC fuses them into the Mega stone : Arceusite.

The plates are obtained through fetch quests from hard, type appropriate dungeons with a plate guardian (pseudo or non-mascot legend) at the end of each.

That'd make sense, although how would the ability work, then? Making you able to pick the type manually? I dunno if they're willing to make an entirely different UI for that.
