The characters the users post belong to them, through their own art or even characters they've adopted, been gifted or purchased from other users on and offsite. The reason it's invite is to build trust; you can even allow your friends to get and view images without watermarks if they used your invite code. The userbase is extremely protective over the characters they own, because some people have literally spent hundreds of dollars to own them..
