Originality starts to arise after 1700 when you see people that actually builds around role compression rather than typing cores and you can find some nasty cores like u turn Manaphy and Dugtrio, stuff that feel from grace in BW being reborn on cancerous bulky offense strats, semi stall with pursuit trappers and an offensive wincon, hazard hyper offense and stuff like medicham offense(cancerous in the suspect ladder).
It's also a very unforgiving metagame as there are almost 60 viable Pokémon, so even if you prepare for the cancer archetypes you are bound to find that one guy with sub Kyurem B and rest megaheracross that just walks over your core.
I enjoy OU, but it takes a bit of time to learn how to enjoy it.
