Above in this thread - which you're meant to read before you post in because, you know, that's how a discussion works, it was theorised that Heatran's based loosely on standard Volcano gods where the crater is worshipped and the site of ritual sacrifice. The gender divide and entire 'magma stone' thing can be related to Philippine volcano gods and Heatran's physical shape is in part attested to the shape of a volcanic crater and in part to Agni's ram (Agni being the most notable god relating to volcanoes) which would cover the horns, shield and shackle-like details that Heatran bears.
Or, you know, I could just just say "oh yah, it's definitely some random asspull theory about nothing that has no relation to volcanoes or deities that doesn't make any sense and throw in the word modern too" and that would make me real smart and good just like you, anon, right?
